Justice Catalyst ’18-’19 Fellow David Nahmias’ Project Receives BALIF 2021 Legal Services Award

David Nahmias, a 2018-2019 Justice Catalyst Fellow, will be recognized at Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom’s (BALIF) 41st Annual Gala on March 5 for his leadership in the establishment of Impact Fund’s Impact LGBTQ Project, which will receive BALIF’s 2021 Legal Services Award.

Nahmias launched his work on the Impact LGBTQ Project as a Justice Catalyst fellow in 2018. In developing this project, Nahmias aimed to create a space at Impact Fund that advocated for low-wage LGBTQ workers in the Bay Area and Central Valley through impact litigation, trainings, direct services, and policy advocacy. Since the project’s founding, it has produced 5 amicus briefs, empowered 90 LGBTQ workers through Know Your Rights workshops, and educated 330 attorneys, advocates, and students on developments in LGBTQ employment discrimination law through its trainings.

BALIF, the nation’s first and largest LGBTQI+ bar association, will present the awards during it virtual gala from 5:00-7:00pm PST. More information about the event can be found here.
