Marie is a Justice Catalyst fellow at Street Democracy where she directs the Property Tax Appeal Project (PTAP).

PTAP aims to close the racial wealth gap by appealing municipal over assessment of property taxes, which disproportionately over-taxes Black and Latinx homeowners putting them at an increased risk of tax foreclosure. Marie graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 2021. In law school, Marie started and ran the PTAP in Detroit and Chicago. She was also a research assistant for the Coalition for Property Tax Justice. The Coalition works to stop Detroit’s over assessment of property taxes and compensate Detroiters who were over taxed and evicted for nonpayment of the City’s illegally inflated bills. Marie also represented clients at the University’s Workers’ Rights Clinic and was a member of the Outlaws Board. She graduated from the College of Wooster in 2017.
