July, 2022 – The ACLU National Prison Project and partner civil rights attorneys filed a federal class-action lawsuit to prevent the transfer of children in the custody of Louisiana’s Office of Juvenile Justice to the Louisiana State Penitentiary, commonly known as Angola Prison.
JC Fellow Marisol Dominguez-Ruiz at The ACLU National Prison Project has been working with a team of attorneys who are challenging the transfer of juveniles to Angola’s former Death Row. The amended complaint includes ADA and Rehabilitation Act claims on behalf of youth with disabilities who have been sent, or are at risk of being sent, to Angola – one of the most notorious adult prisons in the United States.
